Obtaining sender geographic information

You can often find out geographic information about an individual or company, including those of the sender of an article, by selecting the appropriate item from the Locate menu:

For example, if you select the Sender menu item, WebReader will then perform a database search, using publicly-available information, using the sender's nickname, if any, provided in the NNTP header, and display a locator window similar to the following:

If you selected Sender or Individual..., and if the person is not listed in the phone book, a "No Matches" message will be displayed in the locator window. For the remaining options, if WebReader is unable to locate a unique phonebook entry for the requested business, it will display domain information for the selected company if it is available.

Likewise, if you select the Organization item, information like the following will be displayed:

if the business does not appear in the database, or a Web page containing additional information about the business if it does.

Note that the Organization..., Individual... and Domain... menu items are not restricted to the currently-displayed article, since you are allowed to specify directly the search parameters. Thus, WebReader may be used to search for individuals or businesses which have no connection to Usenet. This can be useful, for example, when creating mailing lists.

If you have checked the Cache sender info box in the User category of the Properties list, then any sender or business data received is saved to disk. Whenever a Locate operation is performed, WebReader looks for a cache file before going out to the network, so disk caching can save considerable time.
