The following is a brief explanation of the toolbar buttons used by WebReader. Each of the toolbar buttons has a corresponding menu item which may be invoked instead:
-- This is the Update Newsrc button. Pressing it will return you to the WebReader main window and articles which were marked as read will not be displayed the next time you read articles. You can, however, mark articles as unread to make them available again. The Update Newsrc button is only displayed when viewing subscribed groups.
-- The Return button is displayed only when visiting a group, as opposed to reading articles in a subscribed group, and simply returns you to the previous screen.
-- Selecting the Post ASCII Article button will cause a dialog box to display, allowing you to compose and post an ordinary ASCII article, with or without attachments. If you wish to post an HTML article, you will need to select from the Post/E-mail menu.
-- Pressing the Post followup button brings up a dialog window allowing you to post a followup message to the current group and/or other groups.
-- The Reply to Sender button displays a dialog window allowing you to e-mail a reply to the originator of the article.
-- The Forward Article button displays a dialog window allowing you to forward an article via e-mail to someone.
-- If you wish to reread an article which was previously marked as read, you can select the Mark Article Unread button to display a list of article numbers which you can selectively mark as unread, so that the articles become visible later.
-- Press the Search button to search for an article according to specific criteria, including Subject, Author and other text.
-- Select the Kill button to remove articles from the article list which were sent by a given author or which have a given subject.
-- The Sort button toggles the article list display between an ascending or descending list vs a list sorted by threads.
-- Press the Print button to display a dialog window which enables you to print an article.
-- After saving articles to disk, you can use the Display Saved Articles button to view them.
-- If you have created a categories file, the Filter By Category button will be enabled and, when pressed, displays a dialog window to allow you to select the desired filter.
-- Whenever you select from the Locate menu, after the data is retrieved a copy is cached to disk, to reduce the time it takes to do subsequent retrievals. Often, the cached data becomes "stale", due to temorary network outages, etc., so pressing the Clear Location Cache button tells WebReader to fetch the data from the network, rather than locally, the next time a Locate command is executed.
-- The Rescan button is used to manually check for new articles for all the groups you are subscribed to. If you don't press the Rescan button, then WebReader will periodically check for you every n minutes, where n is determined by the Rescan time property.
-- Pressing the Subscribe button causes a dialog box to display, allowing you to specify the names of one or more newsgroups to subscribe to.
-- The Unsubscribe button causes the currently selected groups to be removed from your subscribed groups list.
-- The View Matching Groups button displays a dialog window allowing you to list all newsgroups having specific text in their names. You can also search by group descriptions, if you had downloaded the group descriptions.
-- Selecting the Fetch New Groups button will result in a download from the NNTP server of all the latest newsgroups known to your server. In general, the longer you wait between downloads, the more groups get downloaded.
-- Press the Read Articles button to begin reading articles contained in the currently selected subscribed newsgroup.
-- Press the Visit a Group button to browse articles contained in the currently selected unsubscribed newsgroup.
-- While in online mode, select the Download Articles button to fetch articles from the news server prior to reading them in offline mode.
-- Pressing the Properties button causes the properties dialog window to display.
-- The Exit/Return button will return you to the WebReader main screen from the subscribed/unsubscribed groups list and terminate WebReader from the main screen.
